Viewing in Different Angles

A blood donation ambassador walked in; she was not attractive in her physical and the worst thing was that she sounded too inexperience and definitely not good in expressing herself.

As she tried to explain that anyone might probably be involved in accident any time, situation heated up for not everyone appreciated her effort.

The focus was on how she had cursed everyone, which was not the actually meaning, and definitely not on the intention.

If someone has an evil heart to curse others, why would she be involved in the blood donation and why would she even bother to make the extra miles to persuade more people to donate?

It is shameful enough that we have not done anything to assist in the event and that we are probably too afraid of needles.

Some people see things in negative angles.

Some people think too highly of themselves and disregard others.

Some people follow the crowd.

Nevertheless, Confucius’ teaching simply mentions that if anyone refuses to listen, do not force it on him because it would probably bring shame on ourselves.

Not Going to Care Too Much

On Monday morning, the sudden news of George on leave wrecked my entire plan. I wanted to spend my time concentrating on the design work for Faris and his website but I ended up spending the time on catching up with the assignments instead.

It was the first time I took over from George to stand in front of the kids even though I was given quite a number of times earlier on. The old disappointment seemed to return to cling on me once again with the lack of appreciation.

If you did not even try to listen, how would you understand? If you had a thousand excuses not to do something, nobody could help you.

I saw faces of people who were full of themselves; I saw ostriches who buried their heads to pretend nothing was happening; I saw arrogance which was the result of why some people were positioned at.

One of the things I hated most was to be insulted. If you had done any insulting thing and yet you did not realise it at all, that proved your brain was not really functioning properly.

If I had taken control of everything since the beginning, things would be different and I could become a devil who tries to push everyone to heaven.

Confucius was right that it was pointless to preach people who did not want to listen.

My blood was boiled in the afternoon. The weird guy told me, “Got work to do” like as if I was slacking and getting paid for nothing. He would only approach me whenever he need or want to get helps since I was being too kind to him since my first day of working there. Nevertheless, I could never ever forget how he had almost destroyed my friendship with my buddies more than half a year ago. The existence of such man was the massacre of kind souls, driving human race to the epidemic of selfishness.

I had totally lost trust in him and thus, I asked my boss directly over the task and somehow it was true. I did not want to put my boss into tight situation and thus I chose to hide the fact on how this asshole had been taking my kindness for granted, and thus I did not question if it was him who initially decided to put me on this task.

Office boy's job

Somehow, for the one-man photocopying job, this creep was kind of using me while chatting with the administration staff. I had to agree that one person’s strength alone to finish up the stapling of 320 sets of papers was quite insufficient, but I was paid to do more important jobs and that working with him was a total turn-off.

Weiming was right that I had to “choose the face to work for” but I was totally proud of myself since I would choose everyone to work for, except for creeps who had betrayed my trust.

Weiming and I took a lift from Bernard to Dover MRT station and it was an enjoyable journey. I loved leaving work together with Weiming because he could at least accompany me until Commonwealth, so that I would not doze off while standing and putting embarrassments into myself.

Give Up on the Hopeless

Confucius mentioned that if a person is not keen on listening, more preaching would only turn the good intention into self disgrace.

It definitely makes a big difference if the lecturer is respected by the person.

In case of the person not respecting the good will, why bother to continue?

We have to learn to let go of things to face the reality that not everyone will come to sense and to accept the fact that nothing is perfect.

Yu Dan’s Confucian theory (于丹论语心得)

Recently, I have been catching the lecture room show “百家讲坛” on Channel U called “于丹论语心得”, which means Yu Dan’s Confucian theory.

For two thousands years, Confucian theory has been the mainstream school of thought among people in East Asia, such as China, Japan, and South Korea. It teaches us the most basic of life.

Professor 于丹 (Yu Dan) is from Beijing Normal University. As mentioned from other websites, after her unique way of analyzing the ancient Chinese classic of The Analects before a TV audience, she shot to fame almost overnight. Sales of her book surpassed one and a half million within forty days of publication. Its readers ranged from teenagers to senior citizens, and people from all walks of lives, including housewives.

Confucius’ teaching is what I have been seeking for, however, not anyone will have the exact concepts of thinking as the great wise man who died thousands years ago. What I have been longing for is a short and simple explanation of the teaching, not to be exactly the same, but of certain similarities. Professor Yu Dan’s understanding and analysis of the Confucian theory seems to be the most ideal so far.

The seven chapters of the lecture room show are:
1. 天地人之道 – Theory of nature
2. 心灵之道 – Inner soul
3. 处世之道 – Dealing with things
4. 君子之道 - Gentleman
5. 交友之道 – Making friends
6. 理想之道 - Dreams
7. 人生之道 - Life
(English descriptions are just draft, translated by myself, and therefore may not be accurate)

The seven video clips in MMS format (loads WMV files on entering):

《论语》心得(一)《天地人之道》

《论语》心得(二)《心灵之道》

《论语》心得(三)《处世之道》

《论语》心得(四)《君子之道》

《论语》心得(五)《交友之道》

《论语》心得(六)《理想之道》

《论语》心得(七)《人生之道》
