New Blogger Beta

http://beta.blogger.com

As some of you have noticed of the new Blogger Beta, I have watching over it for some time. My operation has somehow delayed my intention to switch over to it and finally I have done it on Friday, 29 September, 2006.

After some navigation and testing of the configuration, I notice some updates and new features over the older version which most people are still using.

- Faster loading speed
- Labels function
- Layouts (upgraded templates)
- Number of comments shown in edit posts page
- Able to view all entries (previously only 300)
- No need to republish after editing template

- Faster loading speed
It is much faster to navigate around the site

- Labels function
The implementation of labels to group your entries accordingly to the subject you want. This is a good way for visitors to view their designated contents. This is what I have been wishing Blogger to implement since years ago and the main reason for me to switch over from the older version.

- Layouts (upgraded templates)
These cool layouts are upgraded templates, which are more interactive, but however, using the same designs as the older ones; some of the designs are really cool anyway. The layouts include bullets to open Archives, which are very useful to keep the list short if you have a very long history of blogging. I fancy this feature a lot but it involves more programming.

- Number of comments shown in edit posts page
This feature can help you keep track of the comments; if you see a “1 comment” indication there, you will know probably you have not replied to that particular post.

- Able to view all entries (previously only 300)
In the older version, you can only view the latest 300 entries in the editing page; if you wish to edit an earlier entry, you can only use the search box provided to search for words that particular entry contains. In this Beta version, you are able to navigate to the earlier list of entries.

- No need to republish after editing template
This is another good point that has reduced the time wastage. I bet they have changed their programming style that has eliminated the earlier “Publish” dirty job each time after you edit your template.

If you are a template/blogskin designer, the following links may be useful to you.

- Template Tag list
- Template Tags: defined
- Layouts Data Tags
- Widget Tags for Layouts

If you have explored the Blogger Beta, please share the advantages.
