There is No Place Called Home

One of the greatest fears at home is when my younger brother brings his friends back to stay overnight.

I welcome visitors and so does my mum, and I’m sure all of us love that atmosphere, but it is impossible to adequate more people in the 3-room flat. One thing is that the visitors consist of both genders.

If you happened to see my MSN nick a couple of months back regarding the need to find a place to rent, that was when my younger brother brought his friends back and my elder brother’s girlfriend came as well. When both rooms were occupied, I had to sleep on the dirty and messy living room’s floor.

It is not about immatureness but the efforts to spare thoughts for people in your surroundings, and especially towards your family members.

Together with the daily irritation and distraction in the house, I feel like moving out at times. Of course, my financial situation does not allow. Frankly speaking, I cannot survive without my mum.

The house is left behind by my dad and none of us has worked for it; and thus I do not think any of us has the right to inherit it fully. I hope both my brothers are working towards getting their own houses in future like me, but meanwhile, spare more thoughts for all family members.

In fact, I’m always hoping that my flat will be enblocked so that we might be given a new flat with three bedrooms, but it seems impossible in near future because the government is still trying hard to upgrade the thirty years old flat and its surrounding area.

For those who own your own bedroom, please cherish your freedom and privacy, and your comfortable bed.

Banked in AdSense’s Cheque

[Wednesday, 02 May, 2007]

Nothing was unusual about this morning and I managed to go to bed at around 4.30am. I was then waked up by my mum at around 2pm.

It was not a usual day after all. My mum brought home a letter from Google AdSense and inside hosted the cheque, which seemed to have waited for me so eagerly. This aid came in handy. It was my second time receiving it but the first time my mum was able to help me cash it into my bank account; the previous time they sent me from the America and I got them to cancel the cheque, and currently still waiting for them to credit the amount back into my account.

Therefore, I have proved wrong to those people who have seen me staying online the entire day and assuming I’m very free. Although my progress may be slow sometimes due to distraction, such as television, Friendster and MSN, I do work. I do play games but I spend more time on work.

This afternoon, I continued with my work until evening time when I set off to Bukit Batok. I met up with Mingfa at the MRT before approaching Mr Khin’s flat. Kelly was waiting at the same void deck and when the co-broke agent arrived, Mingfa and I quickly went up to prepare the house.

Kelly was intending to let Mingfa do all the talking but he was not really prepared. Since I was not wearing as formal as him and that I was dehydrated and felt uncomfortable on my throat, I did not do anything. The co-broke agent in fact did most of the talking and I was quite impressed that he could relate so much things on the first visit.

Kelly went home after that and the buyers were actually quite interested. Mingfa and I went downstairs to wait for the second group of viewers. We waited for more than half an hour and finally they called Mingfa. Just as we were at the void deck, we saw the same pair of couple who were with the co-broke agent an hour ago. Mingfa got very pissed but I knew clearly it was the couple’s fault for they should not have engaged the agent while looking for flats by themselves; the silliest thing was they did not suspect it was the same flat in the first place.

We left immediately. Mingfa was intending to have a jog with Wilson and if only I was staying near them, I could join them in the healthy lifestyle. I wanted to have my own jog as well but when I reached home, I was welcomed by KFC chicken. I decided to have a midnight jog but later on, my stomach played me and I continued with eating again.

Room for Rent at Jurong East

[Wednesday, 18 April, 2007]

It was another relaxing night again. I had some games of Condition Zero with my elder brother and then caught the soccer match between Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday United, which the champion scored two goals against nil. I went to bed at 5am.

I was waked up by phone calls again and when I finally got up, I was very disappointed to see the shares price dropping badly. I was not sure how much longer I could hold anymore.

I gave a call to Grace, Kaven’s banker, but she sounded like I should not be calling her in place of Kaven to get the address of the law firm. I knew my responsible as an agent but she seemed so unprofessional. In the end, she told me she would get the lawyer to call Kaven instead and I was glad to put down the phone. I was quite furious of her attitude but later on when I told Kaven about it, he said the lawyer had called him the day before but he did not tell me.

Afterwards, Grace from ERA called me regarding the Lorong Ah Soo flat. She said Kelly had agreed to meet her client at 11am on Saturday but Kelly was not free to go and I would go instead. Since Grace told me that was just a friendly reminder, I was expecting Kelly to call me about it but she did not. I began to feel disappointed.

Joshua called me in regards of rental of flats for his friend but when I asked Jianhao about a Choa Chu Kang one, he told me the owners had rented it out, which made me feel so insecure about the entire listing; it would reflect so badly on me if some tenants were to want to view a room but ended up it was already rented out. However, he told me there was a new listing at Jurong East, next to Wilson’s house.

Feeling so disappointed with my project and the rental thing, I had a few games of Condition Zero to relax myself. At night was all boring works.

Viewing At Bukit Batok and Volleyball at Shuqun Secondary

[Thursday, 12 April, 2007]

I was able to catch my sleep at 5am and my mum waked me up for my half boiled eggs at around 10am. I continued my beauty sleep till afternoon and waked up to see my shares price falling. It was a terrible sign for my plan to survive on it with this little income seemed bearish.

I went to Bukit Batok for the viewing. I was not able to contact Kelly and Mingfa replied me slowly. I did not have the contact number of the first viewer and not even his or her name. And if the two viewings were to crash due to time conflict, I would not know how to entertain both parties.

It was when Jingkun called me, I realised Mingfa would most probably not be able to rush down. I would not have minded if things were organised properly but I knew nothing completely. When I was feeling lost, Kelly suddenly arrived and told me her ear piece was spoilt and that was why I was unable to contact her. She was caught in the traffic jam and her clients were late as well. The person who called Mingfa to arrange for the appointment was probably just a hoax.

The viewing was dragged and the feedback was not good about the flat because whoever the designer for Bukit Batok area really sucked to the core for place two flats so near to each other; who would want to open his room’s windows to let the opposite front facing flat resident have free show everyday? That was a big turn off.

I could have rushed over to Shuqun Secondary earlier if not for the chat near the void deck. Kelly was informing Mrs Khin about the clients’ offer and we only left after 8pm. I took bus 187 over and it was exactly four bus-stops away like what Jingkun had told me. I took the longer route over to the main gate. I almost could not make it again for the bloated stomach made me feel so uncomfortable.

A man was standing there and did not notice me at all until I closed the gate quite hard. Later I realised he was the guard who showed me the way in but probably was just trying to see if I was going to the volleyball court.

By the time I got there, they had already played two matches and I was so disappointed. Before the end of the third game, Mingfa asked me to warm up. Then, I got to play as subset. My first ball at the main spiker’s position flew down and scored point. My next touch of the ball was blocking at number two and managed to stop opponent’s attack. Just as they were teasing that I was “100%” for that night, I could not serve the ball over. Our team played very well with two SQS players due to absence of Wilson. This time, we had Andy with us.

After the games, we went to Jurong East Central for dinner. I did not want to worsen my stomach and thus did not want to eat anything. Jingkun was either very kind or very hungry or perhaps both, that he offered to share a plate of carrot cake with me.

Just as I was returning from the stall, I saw a pair of shameless couple. The guy was caressing the girl’s thigh so obviously at the coffee shop. Some time later, I looked over there accidentally and saw the girl caressing the guy’s back. Jingkun saw the guy took some food and kissed the girl immediately. I presumed the couple stayed very near the coffee shop such that they were able to ease their needs immediately after dinner.

There was also a cute girl with a guy whom Weitat claimed was good looking. She was doing the ordering of food and drinks while the guy was sitting down there like a boss. The way she walked and twisted her body was sexy. When Weitat joked that the guy was lame, I actually believed him for I did not expect such guy existed.

We left at 11pm. I was expecting Kok Chiang to “send” me home as he was going back to camp at the east side but he took a cab instead of train. I was with one of the Clementi ITE guys who looked very quiet but he alighted shortly at Clementi and I had to bear the extremely unpleasant smell of an average sized bangala who sat one seats away from me, but was in fact taking up two seats. I was teasing him until Clementi that he had just worked as gigolo and thus he could not close his thighs.

It Was Not My Fault That I Could Not Doze Off

[Wednesday, 11 April, 2007]

It was such a rare day that I went to bed at 2am but unfortunately failed to doze off. It could be due to factors like my mum was packing her wardrobe at such weird hour, causing series noises, and that I had to sleep on the bed where the air conditioner attacked me directly. My stomach was giving me some uncomfortable feeling as well and that even after exercising, I could not sleep. My eyes were very tired but even closing them my brain could not stop working.

I finally got up after 5am. My brother returned home soon and reported the news of Man Utd thrashing Roma 7-1. I went to bed after 7am. I was waked up by my mum at around 10am to eat the half boiled eggs that I had ordered. Subsequently, calls waked me up.

I had a weird call from Zijun’s personal assistant (PA). The day before, he told me that we could collaborate on some work and he would ask his PA to contact me later in the day, which she did not. This morning, she told me she was going to arrange an appointment for Zijun with me, just simply for half an hour. I thought she was supposed to tell me what was the plan but she sounded I was going to “invest” in that financial company. Since Zijun was involved in MLM and other stuffs but my only interest (in fact I detest MLM) was based on web development, I was not very interested about meeting him up for such business other than to catch up. I told her we would arrange on some other time but she did not seem to want to put down the phone and thus I told her to call me some other time. I was in fact too tired to figure out what was happening and was intending to wait for Zijun to online to clarify things with him. Luckily, she did not call me back again.

Jianhao gave me a good piece of news that there was response from the flyers we pasted at Redhill and there was viewing at night. Later on, Kelly called and told me someone wanted to view Mr Khin’s flat at almost the same time as well and I had to tell her I was not free. She could not contact Mingfa and sounded a bit frustrated.

I went to Redhill in the evening, reaching almost right at time, which was 6.45pm. I called Jianhao but he was only at Clementi. When he arrived with two ladies to view the room, he told me he was meeting the landlord at 7pm and I realised I should have slow down my pace so much instead of rushing over from the bus-stop. When I thought everything was going smooth, the girl who was going to rent the room told us that her boyfriend was paying for the rental as well and the owners had claimed earlier that they only want a female tenant because they did not want anything to happen. Jianhao’s friend should have explained it earlier such that we would not waste the trip down since it was impossible.

Jianhao and I had our dinner at the Redhill market. I had chicken wing rice for $2.50 from the western food stall. Sugarcane drinks was nice with the lemon, but the small cup which cost $1.20 reminded me of the older days before the renovation, which I could get a very big cup with $1.

I followed Jianhao to Choa Chu Kang in the hope to learn some rental skill from him. There were supposed to be two viewings, which I thought was quite worthy of my time. The Indian tenants were late for half an hour and then we realised they had another viewing at Clementi afterwards. The other viewing was cancelled.

Jianhao sent me to the MRT station and I continued with my work with frustration of the slow computer.

The Bachelor and Viewing at Bukit Batok

[Sunday, 08 April, 2007]

Weitat was sending Jingkun, Junyang, Mingfa and I home when Elaine called him. However, he told her he was driving and put down the phone. Then, he told us that she was crying and we started asking him to park the car by the side of the road and call her back. Despite all the nagging around his ears, he refused to listen to us. In the midst of the journey, I finally gave up, feeling so disheartened and annoyed by his cold-heartedness.

As a friend, he should not have ignored her in the first place and moreover, they liked each other. Elaine was his ex girlfriend and they were together years ago. I was so delighted to know that they both still had affection for each other, except that she was attached now. Stories about her current boyfriend pierced me to want to patch Weitat and her up so badly.

He had his own reasons for things he did. At least, he did not want to be a third party now nor give any bad impression that he was showing affection for her when she was feeling down. If he was indeed like what he claimed, not a good boyfriend, he could at least try to be one; if you had tried, you might have succeeded but if you had never tried, you would definitely not succeed.

To me, he was wasting such a great chance and he was simply leaving her in the torch. He proved me once again that kind people were born to be losers.

The simple him and the sweet her were one of the couples whom I hoped could get together. I could bet that he could probably never get someone as sweet as her in future.

He was one of the most eligible bachelors in my group. Although he was not as cute as Wilson or as handsome and macho as Tze Khit, he could easily provide for a girl now with his family’s wealth and current stable job. Overall, he had nothing much to worry about.

Perhaps, he had not tasted much feeling of setback and thus he could not treasure relationship like Mingfa or me. He was a lucky guy, unlike me, but he let all the unimportant things overrode his feeling for her.

Upon reaching home and getting bathed, I started a special work. The morning was dedicated to Weitat. I did not blog nor continue with updating of my project, but instead, started to edit his photo taken with Elaine. It took me around six hours to complete it together with a website. The URL was benchmarked on the photo, which I uploaded into my Friendster account. Then, I submitted the photos to a few of our gang people and to his account as well. It was all for him that I slept only at after 7am.

Mingfa waked me up at around 2pm. My mum and younger brother began to continue packing the room again. I started my work and later, played a round of Condition Zero with my elder brother. Soon, I packed up to go to Bukit Batok.

Unfortunately, I had to bear with weird encounters on the train. Firstly was the smell of stinky feet even though I was standing by the side of the doors. Later, a weird Malay uncle was standing near me, right at the doors. His switching of hands to grab on the pole besides me every half a minute started to irritate me. Afterwards, he moved nearer to the seats and held on to the pole on my left side. Then, he started leaning towards the pole like kissing his girlfriend.

This time, the direct buyers went up to the house immediately and we were surprised since we did not give them the address. Mr and Mrs Khin received us with great hospitality again. Kelly let Mingfa handle the second viewer but he was not experienced enough. We were stunned when she wanted to leave soon. The comments were not good and I was quite disheartened.

Mingfa and I were supposed to have dinner together but we did not have much appetite and decided to go home straight away. By the time I reached home, the room was much neater.

Messy? A bit better though.

Recovering From Failure

[Tuesday, 20 March, 2007]

Halfway through my work, I was distracted by my elder brother to play Condition Zero game again. We stopped at 4am after a few rounds of reaction training. My brother started to catch the soccer replay between Manchester United and Middlesbrough while I continued to finish up my work. I joined him at the second half of the match to witness the only goal of the game. It was a penalty kick for Ronaldo. I preferred a normal scoring, which would be much more exciting.

Kelly waked me up at around noon and came over my house’s carpark to let me sign the OTP for Kaven. Afterwards, I continued with my beauty sleep.

It was pretty disappointing to witness the failure of my ten-bucks-per-day project. It was a secret and thus should not be mentioned. However, the dejection drove me to strive even harder and thus the entire day was spent on web designing. I did not even want to go out with my family for dinner.

During late evening, Chicken-tortoise called me again. Usually, most guys, excluding Gilbert, would be very happy when sweet girls ring them up but it was different for me this time. She was asking me to do translation for her again. She did not hang up the call immediately but since she was busy chatting with her China friends online, we did not talk much. She claimed that she did call me to chat before but I did not pick up her call. Within minutes, she ended our conversation.

Jessica messaged me and I felt quite embarrassed for not approaching her instead. I gave her a call before informing Kelly of the requirement of a flat.

Headache

[Thursday, 15 March, 2007]

Before I could realise, it was already near 5am. After waking up in the afternoon, I started my daily routine of clearing my emails. I was basically waiting for my mum to come back with my meal and also Kelly to message me the particulars of the buyers for the flats.

After she gave me the details, she sent me another message to ask if I would mind that she disband the group. It was unfair to her all along that Jenny, Mingfa and I were kind of dragging her since she was doing most of the work and that Jenny did not even appear once. Looking at the other angle, also mentioned by friends, Kelly was too busy to really teach us.

I did not finish my lunch and left home at around 3pm as I was afraid the HDB branch office would not wait for me. After reaching the office, I was a bit weary somehow. The two attachment students were at Regina’s counter and the cute one looked quite expressionless. However, I met Regina just outside the photocopier room and she was smiling so happily finally. I got down to a seat and quickly started filling up the Salutatory Declaration forms before going down to the HDB branch office.

This time, the reception counter was empty and I pressed for the queue number myself for the first time. There were three counters available and somehow my wish was granted and I was served by Mr. Ho again. He looked friendliest among the officers and was also most professional.

I went back to the office afterwards and helped Kelly to get an invoice from Winnie. It was then I realised I had keyed in the wrong number into my phone and that was why I was unable to get through her line. She looked extremely shagged and sick that as if she would fall down anytime. Nevertheless, she was still as helpful.

I had a long wait at the bus interchange for bus 167. After reaching home, I finished up the remaining food for my lunch and started bathing. Then, I took MRT to Kovan to meet up with Kaven. His sister, Fui Yen, caught me at the door of Heartland Mall and I was very glad that she still remembered me. I got to meet their mum and later, Kaven joined us after buying his drinks.

It was only near 7pm, which was an hour away from the arranged time. Kaven’s mum wanted to go up to the Hougang flat immediately and I was quite lost. I called Kelly and got Rina’s number from her and tried to see if Rina could arrange to let us go up earlier. I was lectured by Kelly for she said I was supposed to control the situation. Nevertheless, I did my part to ring up Rina who told me the owners were inconvenient to let us go up earlier.

The worst came while we were approaching Kaven’s car, for he and his sister had a tiff. I was not worried about my commission but the sudden cancellation of the second viewing of the flat in jus less than an hour’s time. We paused at a car park for some time before proceeding to the flat. I did not understand their language on the car but I felt so awkward to sit in their family’s dispute. It kept my head spinning.

Luckily, Kelly had reached there earlier to wait for us. I had quite awkward encounter when Kaven’s mum asked me about why Maybank was not giving any gift. I explained to her that its interest rate was lower than other banks and that could be the reason why they were not giving away any freebies. Then, his mum told me she had just bought a house in Malaysia and the bank offered zero commission for the first year. I became quite wary of his mum for I was afraid to give any wrong answer to her questions.

We did most of the documents at the void deck while waiting for the time to pass. Rina arrived at 8pm and we went up together. It was the third visit there and both Kaven and I loved the place. We stayed there to finish up the documents after Kaven and his family decided to buy it. Suimin called me twice to ask me for translation again when my mind was in chaos and was actually busy with the documentations.

After that, we went to the coffee shop across the street while waiting for Kelly to photocopy their identification cards. I did not buy any food for I was having headache. Kelly returned for the second time to let me sign some documents. Kaven was booked for parking his car outside the rubbish dump collecting place and was fined hundred bucks. He sent his mum and sister home before dropping me at my house.

The fact that I had to either get a part time job or switch to a better company troubled me and that could be the source of my illness. I would probably wait till finishing the course at my company before deciding on anytime. That was five months after joining the company, they finally got the course up and I wondered how many cheated people would attend the course for I believed many of them had already gotten themselves other jobs.

First Open Market’s Transaction

[Sunday, 04 March, 2007]

I began feeling worse and almost felt like dropping down onto the floor. The cough was irritating. However, as time passed by, I began to feel better.

I was waked up a number of times in the morning. Two hours after I dozed off at around 6am, my mum unintentionally and stupidly disturbed my sleep just to switch on the fan. Afterwards, my elder brother’s girlfriend came and they made so much noise and followed by phone calls.

I got up at around noon finally after Jingkun told me we were going to meet at 1.45pm. I could not finish my lunch and was eventually late for fifteen minutes. However, I had totally forgotten I was meeting the BMCC guys and I had to be late for an hour in order to match up with the latest comer. Jingkun’s girlfriend cocked up the day for us and eventually I went to Mingen’s house with only Meijun and Weitat.

Mingfa was already waiting there for us. Mingen’s house was big and nice and his mum was very friendly. I stayed until Wilson arrived and left with Mingfa to Hougang. Luckily I dropped Kaven a message for he thought the meeting was called off. Mingfa and I took bus to Choa Chu Kang MRT and finally reached Ang Mo Kio by train. Afterwards, we took bus 88 to Street 61.

Kaven reached there just before us and Suimin called me up when we were reaching. She was asking me about outputting Chinese in her computer. She was behaving weirdly like an insane somehow. This day, she turned into a tortoise.

This was the first time I experienced signing of OTP other than JTC flats’. Later on, I gave a call to Ruoci but she did not really sound like wanting to meet up and thus I followed Kaven home. I joined in the steamboat with his tenant and her friend. Then, I went for a swim with him and afterwards, got to meet up with his another two friends – Eric and Rina. By the side of the pool when I was shivering, I did not say many things and mainly it was because I did not want to say anything which Kaven did not want to announce yet.

Later on, he sent me to the Clementi MRT station and I managed to reach home at around 11pm.

A Good Place for Kaven

[Friday, 02 March, 2007]

I was not feeling too good this morning and started to play Condition Zero. I had not been touching for as long as after I ORDed. It reminded me so much of the army days when I was together with my colleagues, doing all the shitty work together and at times we tried to squeeze out time to play the game. We took part in the competition and got second place. I had so much things to work on (I had not even finished the summary for my army days) but I really needed to get my mind out of the current situation.

I waked up at around noon and remembered the valuer was going down to Bukit Batok. Afterwards, Mingfa told me that girl was quite pretty and was only around our ages. It was such a waste that I did not go. I had dozed off so many times in the afternoon when weather was excellent for sleeping. The rain did not wake me up, but instead, kept my mind in peace. With everyone out of the house, the main door was closed and thus I was really left in peace.

Eugeue from ERA called me to persuade me to join his company. He had two packages for me. The first one was to give the company 20% of my commission each time as a newcomer but I got to attend all those free courses; the second one was to give the company only 10% and my position would be associate manager but I did not get to attend the courses as an “old bird”. Both he and I thought the second option would be the best but I felt it was too flattering for me. One thing for sure was that I had to consult Kelly and the biggest problem was the hypocrisy of people in this line – everyone would smile at me but might not be sincere.

For all I knew, I was still wondering if I should continue in this line. It was not that I was afraid of all the bastards but the field was designed to turn challengers nasty. Since it was a trend that most agents were crooks somehow, I believed many of the honest agents had either quitted or submitted to the wicked force. There were many things I liked about in this line but I really hated getting pissed off over rude or conscienceless agents.

If Mike had started his business since last year, things would definitely be different and that I needed not question myself so often now. It would probably take two or three months for his contract with the army to end and that I could demonstrate my talent in the web market. By then, would I be too busy in the property line? But if I did not join this line, would I be able to get to meet Kelly, David and Kaven?

I had a chat with Kaven during evening when he was on the way home in a traffic jam. He told me he would not have trusted me if I had worked longer in this line. That was really a big blow to me for that really showed how people judged agents. So, if I were able to continue to maintain my ethics ten years down the road, people like Kaven might not even trust me. To other, it might not be a big concern but it mattered so much to me.

While he and I were still on the phone, Kelly called me to tell me that there were not many listing on the latest newspaper’s classified. Just when she was mentioning about block “698a” was not what Kaven was really looking for, I was excited by the news however. That was the area which Kaven pointed out that he liked the flats so much on the appearance for they were some of the newest flats in Hougang. Kelly quickly contacted that agent and we agreed to meet at 9pm.

I called my mum and she came back home earlier to cook fried rice. Before she finished cooking, I had a game of Condition Zero again. Just before leaving the house, I remembered Ruoci have not replied me over her results. I gave her a call after getting dressed and was surprised she was not busy as usual. I continued to listen to her sweet voice for another fifteen minutes before I told her I had to leave the house.

I was quite unlucky to miss the train and “dumbos” were blocking the way. Singapore, compared to Taiwan, was still so much lagged behind in terms of courtesy. I remembered clearly in Taiwan, everyone had to keep to the right side of the escalators so that those passengers rushing for time could make their ways faster. Whereas in Singapore, idiots pretended not knowing about the rules of keeping to the left did not exist and chose to act like huge and unmovable cupboards.

Kaven arrived around twenty minutes earlier. I kept looking at my watch throughout the journey and was eventually late for another five minutes after missing another train at Outram Park station. Luckily Kaven was such a popular guy that he was entertained by the phone while waiting for me at Kovan station.

We were early while Kelly was busy and that she did not come half an hour earlier like usual. At 9pm, we finally met up and went to the flat together. It was the highest unit and it was located at the corner some more. I was further impressed by the condition of the house and that it matched well to Kaven’s ideal house. The location was nice with coffee shops and 7-11 store, however, was a fifteen minutes walk to the MRT station which was also quite a reasonable distance.

We walked over to near the MRT station and went back to drench our thirst at the 7-11 store before discussing furthermore. Afterwards, Kaven drove me home once again. It was another struggle on my mind to whether to stay on with the job.

View Flats

[Thursday, 01 March, 2007]

It was a morning when inspiration died off me again. I woke up around noon and started calling the agents for appointment time. One of them told me he would like to make the appointment during weekends and I was actually quite pissed off for he could have just let me know earlier. Another two made me hold on.

This afternoon was another bad day for Justus came over with Chinese book review. He did not put in enough effort and even wanted me to choose the book for him to write about.

I had bad news from Kelly about Lulu and Uncle Sam, and just as expected, we were kind of being backstabbed.

Finally I got confirmation from an agent and just then, Kaven told me he had made his own appointment. My sky almost turned dark for it took me lots of effort to make it work. However, he assured me the timing was alright but I had to cancel another appointment at 7pm.

I walked to Hong Leong Building again to meet up with Kaven. He picked up his sister on the way and we proceeded on in the traffic jam. I did not go up to the first flat which he had arranged for himself. Afterwards, we rushed over to block 421 but the agent was late and I felt quite awkward even though it was not my fault. Then, we proceeded to the cheater agent’s flats and I did not go up as well since her runner had seen me before.

At the end of the viewings, we went to Hougang Mall and since many of the restaurants were closing, we picked one without much consideration. It was very expensive and Kaven offered to pay for me the fourth time but I had to reject him. I ordered a chicken set which cost nearly $10. it came in a hot plate style and it was like having barbecue and we were soaked with the oily smell in the end.

Kelly came down and luckily for her, we had more information and that really proved how lousy I was. Anyway, in the end, Kaven’s enthusiastic about that unit was killed by the delay of lift upgrading.

It was around 10.30pm when Kaven sent me and his sister off. He dropped his sister at Boon Keng before sending me home.

Once I got home, I realised Suimin had messaged me in MSN and she sounded urgent. I called her back immediately but I guessed she was busy on the phone already. Once again she told me she would call me back but she did not!

I’m a Sinner of the Property Line

[Sunday, 25 February, 2007]

In this world, you can classify working personnel into two types – one who works honestly and one who works scandalously for his own gain, even in the loss of others.

In my short journey in the property line, I have encountered many people who do not practise what they preach. They turn out to be despicable liars just like how it appears in dramas. I shall give you an example.

I-Da-Liar is the coordinator of a team who will make contacts with other agents and clients, and arrange all the viewing and timing for her team’s agents. In this unfortunate day, she contacts agent “Donator” to arrange a viewing for her clients who wish to purchase a 4-room flat in Ang Mo Kio.

Donator is a happy-go-lucky, frank and honest agent who represents the owner of the flat. The flat belongs to JTC (Jurong Town Corporation) and it is a project for his company. Since many companies are fighting over this project and some even offer zero commission, he receives no commission and therefore has to collect commission from the buyers, with or without the companion of an agent.

Since in the market there are standards for the amount of commission, such that sellers have to pay their agents 2% commission and buyers have to pay their agents 1% commission, it is difficult to handle the JTC flat without the sellers paying any commission.

There are two ways of handling the commission. The first way is that the buyers have to pay 1% commission to Donator. Donator’s company will take 35% of that 1% and the remaining amount will be split between both Donator and I-Da-Liar’s team, such that the buyers do not need to fork out any money to any agent. The second way is that the buyers have to give 1% commission to each of the agents – Donator and I-Da-Liar – and in total, 2% commission. Their respective companies will of course take part of their commission. However, in both cases, the buyers of the flat have to clearly understand and agree on the commission beforehand.

In many cases, the first way is used and that 1% from buyers is shared between both of the agents but however, the buyers’ agents will get another 1% directly from the buyers. This nice and cosy flat is sold below valuation, which means that the buyers will gain from it, unlike for other flats the owners are asking for extra cash value. Since Donator and his team have been working hard and in order to recoup their loss on transportation, food, time and energy, they decide to go for the second way such that they will not be “eaten” up by the co-broke agents.

Nevertheless, I-Da-Liar claims that her buyers do not wish to produce 2% commission. Since I-Da-Liar sounds so friendly and sincere on the phone, Donator decides to give her a chance to serve her buyers well and accept the deal of sharing 1% commission, such that her buyers will only come out with the 1% commission in total.

I-Da-Liar is actually working for two people – Pennis and Ni-Conned. During the first viewing session, I-Da-Liar sends two runners to bring the buyers over, Donator does not suspect nor mention much to his mentor. It is until when I-Da-Liar calls Donator again for second viewing, Donator tells his mentor about it clearly, which is too late, because as a beginner, Donator does not know this group of despicable agents are already blacklisted by many agents in the market.

On this very crucial day, Pennis goes down personally to close the deal. He starts to scandal and accuse Donator for taking commission from both sellers and buyers. Pennis is actually a very experienced agent, who is once Donator’s mentor’s boss, and knows everything about the JTC flats’ commission.

In the end, Donator and his mentor realise that Pennis is actually taking another extra 1% commission from the buyers when Pennis’ dog, I-Da-Liar, has claimed earlier that the buyers are not willing to fork out 2% commission. In this way, Pennis is able to earn 1% commission directly and another half of Donator’s commission.

For example, the selling price of the flat is at $224000, Donator should earn $1456 (65%) commission after his company absorbs $784 (35%) of his total commission. However, Pennis has now tricked Donator for half of his $1456 ($728) despite Donator has to pay for the advertisement and transportation fee and sacrifice so much of his time and energy.

Even though Donator is a new agent from a very poor family and needs money badly, what he loses most is the trust he has given to the cunning team who pockets his money. He does not mind losing this income but for the professionalism, he has to proceed for the sake of the seller (JTC). He can never forget how I-Da-Liar has betrayed his trust and how Ni-conned has pretended nice over the phone.

Donator decides to treat the money he has been conned of to be the funeral money for the cunning team of housing agents. He knows clearly even though they can live blindly and use the dirty money they get from cheating a poor guy, they will get their retribution one day.

From this story, I hope every agent can learn from Donator’s mistake to trust people too easily. If any agent comes across such despicable team of agents, please do not co-broke with them no matter how much you can earn from the deal. Whereas on the other hand, buyers should know that many top agents are cunning people and please do not engage their services.

YES, I HAVE LET THE ENTIRE SINGAPORE’S HONEST AGENTS DOWN. I’M A SINNER. I should not have entertained such corrupted agents in the first place.

Hereby, I wish all the best to all despicable agents. I hope their children will not encounter any mishap like torn of penis or born without any private part, their houses will not be broken into, they will not be struck by lightning during rainy days, they will not fall into drains while walking, they will not be choke while eating, they will not be drown while bathing, their cars will not crash with big lorries and their pets will not die of AIDS; and lastly, I wish heaven will open his eyes soon.

A Sickly Working Day

[Saturday, 24 February, 2007]

The night ended late but I was waked up by Christopher at 10am. Time for viewing was finalised to be at 1.30pm. I tried to laze around but eventually got up at 11am to start packing and gobble up the food. I went to Uncle Sam’s place and realised the flooring was not done up yet and there was also this foul smell.

On the way, I realised I had forgotten to bring my water bottle again. Sneezing had also tried to keep passers-by away from me. For moments I felt weaker than usual but still insisted to walk there.

Kelly reached Ang Mo Kio earlier than me. Christopher and his clients were very nice and friendly people. We stayed there for quite long in order to clarify things and Christopher helped us to put in really good and honest words.

After the viewing, we went in separate ways. I was more caution about my health this time and went to the MacDonald’s to get a cup of drinks. However, I did not seem to be able to slip in much water into my body as my stomach was bloated somehow. It got worse over a short distance and finally my mind was all about sitting down. I persisted till only at block 343 and rested down there. I supposed my face was pale by then. Surprisingly for that around half an hour’s time, I saw at least four babes passing by.

Taking train was as torturing and tiring as when I was a cripple. Without sitting down, I felt like vomiting sometimes and the trains were badly packed to allow me to take a rest. After reaching Boon Lay station, I alighted from the train and aimed for the stone seat immediately but some groups of people were eyeing the place as well. Given my character, I would definitely walk away but this time I was left with no choice.

After getting some rest, I walked towards my destination and reached the library where I changed my black company polo shirt into a red t-shirt. I was a little drenched by then but luckily the rain stopped for me to proceed on. It was another long and tiring walk but I managed to sustain my perseverance and reached the place. It was exactly where I first met Vanessa and her group of friends.

After I reached the flat, I was very turned off to see that out of all Zijun’s guests, I only knew Kevin. I was very bored especially when I felt so sick. We had a moment of “lao yu sheng” and later was scattering around of the guests and I was alone at a corner. When Kevin was going off to meet his girlfriend, I tagged along and he drove me to the MRT station.

Finally I got to sit inside the train and I got to even choose my own seat, which was actually a wrong one. The train got more and more crowded over time before it even took off. A very well dressed guy sitting two seats away from me was stretching something and he seemed so professional, whereas I took out my book to scribble words onto it. A person came in and spoiled my mood totally after he took the seat in between me and the artist. He sat in a way which quite bothered the artist and I even though he was not that big size. I was thinking, “This ugly guy is sitting in between the Singapore greatest artist and love story writer and yet he doesn’t want to sit in a more humble way.”

Suimin contacted me to find out about the time for “bai nian” together the next day. Then, I realised she was not free in the afternoon. I quickly contact Huiying and only then she told me she had changed the time to evening, which was out of question for Suimin to join in as well. I knew I had to start calling everyone about the invasion to Anqi’s house but before I could do anything, Aida called me and informed me there could be second viewing for her clients.

I wanted to call Kelly to inform her of the good news but my mum was holding onto the phone. I also had to call Anqi’s mum to confirm about it before spreading the time. I got so irritated after waiting for very long and finally I started using my mobile phone to call Anqi’s mum and Kelly to settle the stuffs. Then, I realised Anqi had forgotten to inform her mum that we were going to her house to “bai nian”.

It was until 9.30pm, I went into the room to check on my mum for the third or fourth time, I realised she was simply scrolling down her telephone book to ring up friends for chatting. In case she would have to pay extra money for my phone bill at the end of the month, I asked her to let me use the house phone first.

In the end, the viewing for the next day was set to 2pm. Anger got to me as I began to explore more things.

Witnessing the Presentation

[Friday, 23 February, 2007]

I was waked up by calls, being entertained by Christopher, Kelly, Jenny and Grace, and another agent called Eric. I was intending to go to office in the late afternoon to help Jenny to submit her invoice payment but I realised she did not pass me Linda’s name card and it was no point going to the office.

I was basically rotting my afternoon away, playing game till evening before I left home for Bukit Batok. Mingfa’s sister had this friend who wanted to sell away his house. So, I took this packed train at the busy hour and saw this girl in Fairfield Methodist Secondary School holding hands with a guy. She sounded like those sweet “ang moh” girl but she turned me off totally with her messy hair like as if she had been raped. Her nose ring kept me so puzzled throughout the journey over the discipline of the school.

I was too lazy to look at the map again as I was quite sure the flat was near the MRT station. Since the neighbourhood was undergoing upgrading, I almost thought I would get lost in the darkness. This time, I took initiative to ask for direction from a passer-by and finally met up with Kelly.

Mingfa and Meijun took cab over while Mingfa’s sister, Jennifer, reached almost at the same time. Then, we went up to the flat. The owners were very polite people and I believed they have brought each other happiness throughout their years of marriage. The house was an executive apartment, which was big and spacious.

We sat down for very long to discuss over the details but I was basically staring at Kelly and not understanding many things; it was too difficult for me to absorb everything at this point of time. We had some miscommunication and did not bring all the required documents like forms for valuation and exclusive letter. We spent over an hour there before Mingfa’s sister drove us to Bukit Batok MRT station.

The journey home was quite a pleasure. I was at first irritated by two guys at Jurong East who kind of squeezed with me by the door side when there were available seats around and thus I took one of the seats instead. A girl sitting opposite me caught my attention. She was not pretty but stylish in her own way, which was very unique. She kept me accompanied until Outram Park. Actually, I had this inspiration into writing but did not take out my notebook for the girl besides me was also writing something and I did not want to catch her attention.

My mum reached home soon after me. I was surprisingly facing hunger even though I had taken a packet of “char siew” rice before going out.

Tour around TPY and My Missed Opportunity

[Thursday, 22 February, 2007]

The boring routine of blogging and updating of website continued till late. Jolee called me in the morning to ask me to join her at Toa Payoh so that she could give me some guidance. At first I thought 12.30pm was a nice timing but I accepted her suggestion to meet at 1pm instead. Suddenly I looked into my phone and remembered the clock’s batteries had died and it was already near 12pm.

I realized my mum had bought breakfast for me and I quickly took a few bites before packing it up and put into my bag. I was quite impressed that I managed to get there before 1pm but she was late. After meeting up, she told me to go to the food court to finish my food while she went to the toilet. However, I felt uncomfortable with my stomach and went to the toilet nearest to the food court instead. It was one of the most pathetic toilets I had ever visited with cockroaches running about.

We went straight to ERA instead to meet her co-broke agent and were shown around. True enough, the place was much better than my company. Then, she showed me to DTZ, followed by PropNex. Therefore, this afternoon I finally got to know the location of the companies around Toa Payoh. While waiting for some documents to be done, I sat outside the HDB Hub and finished off the cold fried noodle bought by my mum.

When everything was done, we set off for our office. We took train to Tiong Bahru and transited to bus 16 to the interchange. Right after coming out from the lift, I saw the two polytechnic attachment girls. Jolee went to the toilet and told me to go inside first. The sweet girl opened the door and held it for me as she politely asked if I wanted to go in. That was the first time I ever talked to her but it definitely made me feel more like going to the office.

I went to find Louis for the block 219 keys immediately and had a little chat with him. I realized he used to study in real estate and therefore needed not even take the CEHA course to be qualified as an agent. That was so cool.

After coming out, I saw Jenny. Jolee and Winnie were besides her to settle some documents. I stayed at the office until around 6pm and was surprised to hear from Suimin. She wanted to meet me out because she was bored and this was one of the stupid days which I had to miss out good opportunity to take photos with babe.

I walked to Redhill MRT and then took the train to Ang Mo Kio. I took the underpass for the first time towards Ang Mo Kio Hub and then went straight to block 219. I was so early again. The agent, Lester, came late but his clients were worse. We began chatting and I realized he had only worked for less than two years. He was a nice guy and later on, we entertained his buyers together. I was not sure of the chance of success though. Suddenly I realised I was so muddle-minded to tell the earlier buyers the MacDonald’s operating hours was twenty-four hours. I quickly messaged Lester to inform them of my mistake.

Back to the journey towards Ang Mo Kio MRT, I took a little walk around the Ang Mo Kio Hub again for I realized there were some shops opening on the second level already. I saw naked models in many shops, but too bad they were not humans. There were a number of empty shops and I wondered if company had booked them. I started dozing off on the train afterwards.

Dinner was great for the simplicity. My mum had finally cooked and they tasted quite good.

Wasted Trips and Wasted Trips

[Wednesday, 14 February, 2007]

Even though I had to get up early, I did not try to catch more sleep again. I tried to improve on the property website as usual. Then, I was staring at the screen, looking at my own typing of the Lonestar story. Blogging took me some time and I went off at around 4.30am finally. I seemed to be so lost the entire morning.

I had to wake up as early as 8.30am to prepare everything. I sorted out some documents and then started working on my brother’s computer. The biggest task was to burn some software for Suimin, who I might get to meet her soon, and I wanted to bring it along with me. However, I was a nerd in burning CD and it took me so long to give up trying as I was getting late. So, I typed into a notepad to ask my brother to help me in case I needed to come home to get it any time.

As usual, people were blocking my way as they really did not bother about occupying the whole space whether at the stairs or a narrow road. Perhaps, I was expecting too much for I had always tried to look around so that I would not obstruct anyone on the road if I were taking a stroll. I missed a bus 196 and I almost thought it was end of the world. As some drops of sweat started to drip, bus 167 came instead.

I was in fact a few minutes earlier and the meeting started late. I was not used to seeing so many people in the company and thus I tried to hang around the receptionist area but everyone was busy. Peixian’s mum, Irene, reached and gave me heart-warming smile. Then, she started to question about my well-being.

The meeting started at the working areas instead of the meeting room. I felt it was quite pathetic. I wanted to raise some doubts but held back since I did not have enough sleep and would probably not able to debate well with them. I wanted to point out the fact about the training but was worried that it might affect Louis.

There were broadcast of many things but I had many doubts in them because I was not the naïve newbie who was there for the first day anymore. There were interruption over the phone and I started to drift away from the announcements. Lincoln was asking to view some flats at Ang Mo Kio urgently and I knew I had to cancel the appointment to learn from Jolee at the HDB hub.

Some rental’s lobangs were out but before Kelly and I could coordinate well to book the flats, they had been snatched. Some news could be leaked out somewhere, somehow, to somebody earlier.

Anyway, I got the keys from Louis and then waited for very long time to see another guy in the administration team. I truly believed that not everyone was as helpful and friendly as Louis and that was really terrible.

Then, I rushed off to the HDB branch office to get some OTP forms, got a bun from the cake shop below and proceeded to Redhill MRT station. I was blocked by many blind and deaf tortoises on the way. After reaching Ang Mo Kio MRT, I started to walk so briskly and at paths where few people were around, I started running in my full formal attire and heavy sling bag.

I arrived at the flat in time. I received Lincoln in sweat ten minutes later. Then, we proceeded from block 114 to 117. Lincoln was very nice and respectful all along and he reminded me of Denis. Then, he drove me to Toa Payoh but on the way, I got to know that his client had viewed three units before mine and she was considering the earlier ones only, which meant that my trip down was a wasted one. It was very disappointing for I did not expect them to have viewed so many units already. At least, he was a nice guy and I would not mind.

I started calling Yaozhong but he was at Marina Square. I messaged Shengli and he did not want to come down to accompany me. I went into the pathetic small arcade and came out soon. Then, I remembered that I had not taken my lunch and thus I went to Long John Silver’s. After that, I camped there to pen things down and surprisingly none of the staffs came over to clear my table.

There were a few groups of “bengs” and “lians”. There were also this weird couple sitting at another corner. The girl was either from Raffles Girls’ School or Raffles Junior College and she seemed to be so sick or unhappy but both of them still behaved quite intimately, lying on each other’s shoulder that I could not make out what was wrong. I almost dozed off many times.

It was before 5pm and Kelly had arrived at block 171. She started to contact Cherylyn to ask about the second viewing. Cherylyn told Kelly that she was still waiting to keep in touch with her clients and therefore we continued to wait. After some time, Kelly called me and told me to go home as Cherylyn’s clients did not want the flat anymore.

We were played. Cherylyn had called me the day before in the afternoon that her clients wanted a second viewing. We were kept waiting for the date and time until this evening she told us the clients did not want it anymore due to the low level.

We started to recall how many times we had entertain that company’s agents down to Ang Mo Kio, Tampiness and Bedok, but none of them had helped us to close any deal, wasting so much of our time, energy and money. Kelly told me not to deal with that batch of people anymore.

It was a dull journey home. Jolee told me I had to attend seminars in order to avoid similar problems in future but I was too moody and tired to do anything. I spent the stupid evening alone. I realised my elder brother had helped me to burn the CD but since Suimin did not reply my greeting message, I did not bother to tell her about it.

I was somehow born to experience darkness and thus I had to learn how to indulge in suffering.

Completion of the Fujitsu Notebook Reformatting

[Sunday, 11 February, 2007]

So much for handling the Fujitsu notebook, I slept at quite a late hour again. I woke up before 10am to start looking at the newspapers. I did some circling and marking out of some potential flats and time passed fast.

It was my first time calling and making enquiries about flats but luck was not with me. The flats were either sold out, not eligibility to Chinese, or not suitable for PR (Permanent resident) due to future upgrade.

I was about to send Kaven a message, typing halfway, when he called me. He invited me to view house with another agent at Bukit Batok and I told him embarrassingly that I could not find any flat for viewing later.

After that, I started into problem solving the notebook again. It was frustrating for everything was working fine except that no sound was coming out.

I waited quite long for him to arrive and he drove me over. That agent was quite friendly and the two flats were quite nice. The locations were very good for they were near the MRT.

I almost wanted to burst out laughing when we got into Kaven’s car to go over the opposite building across the street. Both Kaven and I sat in front and did not put on the seat belts. Suddenly I heard a “click” sound behind and I turned back to see the agent putting it on.

I could not stand formality. That agent was doing it not because he was doubting Kaven’s driving skill but to give good impression that he did not want Kaven to be booked by any traffic police. I could not imagine in future I had to do that as well when I was attending to other clients.

Afterwards, we went to West Mall and I went to the library to look for Edgar who helped me to solve the mystery of no sound output from the Fujitsu laptop. It was merely due to a hardware configuration that I had to adjust the sound using the “function” key with two buttons on the top, and the adjusting of volume was not shown on display somehow. Basically, there were two controls of the sound and both had to be adjusted before any sound can be produced. One interesting fact that Edgar taught me was that sometimes when Fujitsu’s notebook refuses to produce any sound, plug in a headphone and remove it.

I met up with Kaven again after he fetched money from the ATM machine. Then, we went to Sakae Sushi for dinner. He taught me a lot about the food. When he wanted to pass me the fifty bucks for reformatting the notebook for him, I refused to accept it for I was not used to charge friends for that.

He sent me to Clementi and after he left, I noticed about the tangling wire from my bag and realised I forgot to put the power cable back into the notebook’s casing. Then, he made a detour back.

Suimin was supposed to call me back at night but she cheated on my feeling!

Miracle, House Viewing and Out with Xiao Hong

[Saturday, 10 February, 2007]

I struggled throughout the night to settle Kaven’s notebook but it seemed to be effortless no matter how I tried. A four letter word filled my mind and I was so helpless…

“AHHH”

I almost wanted to tell Kaven that I would like to give up, whereas he seemed to be quite expertise on it and provided me with some solutions which I had tried. Out of frustration, I decided to rollback the system to right after installation of windows using the System Recovery.

It was a touch of life, a miracle reached me.

I was testing the sound by opening the Windows Media Player and since the default page was the online information, I could sense the weirdness that it could be displayed. Therefore, I opened the Internet Explorer and the MSN page was showing up. My brother suspected it could be due to the cache and I quickly typed the Google website and it showed up as well.

The internet connection as well as the home networking for the laptop was doing fine!

After the weird but fortunate encounter, the first thing I did was to update the Norton Antivirus. Then, I quickly did the windows update, which took very long time. It was a big battle against my sleep when I was idling on the bed.

Sadly, the sound was still unable to work, but since I had house viewing in the early afternoon, I decided to go to sleep right after the first batch of updates ended.

I woke up quite early to continue with the remaining updates. I was delighted to see the Yamaha driver and quickly selected it. Even though there were only seven updates in all, it took really long time to finish downloading and installing that I had to leave the notebook on while rushing off to Tampiness.

On the way, I continued to persuade Suimin not to trim her hair furthermore but she insisted. I reached the flat around fifty minutes earlier. I was actually quite glad that the co-broke agent had changed from Stephen to Jimmy because previously I did not give him too much of good impression.

It was my first meeting with Jimmy and he did not offer me any name card, which I felt so weird with; that was supposed to be the most basic courtesy of all agents and he should be so much veteran than me to know that. Anyway, the two buyers, mum and daughter were not very satisfied with the house, especially the daughter who repeatedly told her mum it would be very noisy since it was so close to the MRT track. Overall, they were all quite friendly. However, Jimmy left the flat without saying anything to me and I felt it was really very rude.

It was around 2pm and I started to wait for Edmund who claimed that he had an appointment at 2.30pm. I thought he would be earlier for his appointment but I waited until 2.45pm when I started to call him. The first time, he was on another line and I purposely rang it till it automatically cut off the line. I tried again some time later but could not get through his line. That was very unprofessional for I had offered to sacrifice my time for him there to pass him the keys but he did not make an effort to even inform me he would be late.

I started closing all the windows and when I was at the kitchen, he arrived. He was on the phone still and we greeted each other with hand signs. A guy seemed like his co-broke agent came to me smiling and started questioning me. I felt it was quite absurd to handle the deal for Edmund when he had already hold so much of my time, and therefore I quickly made my move after he put down the phone. However, I was wondering how he managed to get such hyperactive and friendly co-broke agent.

I went to East Point Shopping Centre for the first time in my life. Siu Hang started messaging me to say that an agent had messaged him regarding property. As I was trying to walk around the place, Siu Hang called and asked me out. We agreed to meet at Cityhall after so long of indecisive. I was expecting him to suggest the place for he was the bored one and I was actually quite tied down with work at home. As I was approaching the MRT station, I saw Long John Silver’s and the smell seemed like emptying my stomach more.

I reached my destination at around 4pm but Siu Hang was late. Thus, I sat down on the chair right after alighting from the train. Scenery was good and I assumed all the babes were crossing over to the train towards Orchard.

After Siu Hang came, we met up at the control station and went to Raffle’s City. We had our lunch at Burger King and I took the extra spicy chicken sandwich meal for an extra dollar, which I did not check. Then, I was quite regretful of my choice.

When our stomachs were filled, we moved on to Suntec City and on the way, I was feeling awful again for my stomach being so bloated. I used to hear from the elderly that we should take a walk after eating but my body seemed to work differently.

After drinking the ice cafe americaNO drink milk

We ended up at the Starbucks and I never had the intention to dump anything, inclusive of water, into my stomach. Nevertheless, I had a cup of “Ice Café Americano”, which was the greatest regret of the day. It was plain and worse than normal coffee. It was quite fun somehow when we tried to mix the milk, chocolate and vanilla powder into it but the chocolate powder would not dissolve. Whereas, the other ingredients did not help to provide any result. I named the final product as “ice café americaNO drink milk”.

I was very surprised to receive a call from a private number. I was expecting it to be from Kelly but it turned out to be Suimin. We were supposed to meet up after her mum went for concert since she was at Takashimaya, which was nearby. We had quite a long chat over the phone but with some long pause in between for she was busy blogging. I teased her so badly that Siu Hang was expecting her to kill me.

On the way home, I got a set of the straits times. Nonetheless, it was too late to call and make arrangements with other agents for Kaven. Suimin almost used my entire night to look for songs and she would never stop scolding me; Chinese songs were easily available but not English ones.

There’s No Luck

[Saturday, 03 February, 2007]

I began the day with going down to Toa Payoh. I was quite lost for I did not know how to get out of the interchange to the opposite side without walking till the swimming pool side. Finally, I found my way to block 171.

I met Kelly on the way and we rotted at the super “chio” flat, which was designed like a condominium. Kelly left to collect documents from Grace and I was left behind to wait for Chris, who was supposed to come at 2.45pm. At around 3.10pm, I wanted to call him and realised my SIM card was invalid. I tried restarting my phone and he arrived at the same time. His buyers, the couples, were very unsatisfied with the shape of the house; the lady started showing black face and they left soon. I was alone again, feeling so disappointed for I felt Chris’ clients should have appreciated the structure more.

Adeline arrived after 4pm to get the keys from me, followed by Kelly. We had some chats before rushing off to Tampiness for the 5pm appointment. I seemed to be flying throughout the journey. We passed by many vehicles and I found them so slow. We reached Tampiness very soon.

The flat was just besides the MRT track and near Simei MRT. Basically, I could not stand it but it was really cosy and windy. The agent was very friendly. The clients however, found it hard to arrange their future furniture and I was idealess with the fatigue for not having even a slip of water.

We went to collect keys from another agent before going for dinner. Then, we went to block 554. The agent was a nice guy and the buyers were an old lady and her daughter. The old lady had been there before and was very interested in getting the flat but her daughter seemed hostile somehow. The agent was very angry and he left soon for he had other appointments.

We tried so hard to explain to the daughter about the procedure and she started to ask unrelated questions and kept repeating. Then, she kept asking about bank loan, which was totally out of question for her salary was less than a thousand dollars. We knew her mum meant well and was willing to fork out the money in cash so that she would not be taking any loan.

We switched to the void deck so that we could rest our feet but our throat continued to suffer. The daughter kept repeating the same question even after Kelly got fed up. She turned to me and continued asking until I gave up on her too. Overall, she had repeated the same question for more than thirty times, which was so crazy. Both Kelly and I pitied her old mum who was trying so hard to help her but we had to give up and leave the place.

The night ended with this misery that we always thought we could at least close this case after so much effect for all the JTC flats.

Things Went Very Wrong

[Friday, 02 February, 2007]

It was somehow the unluckiest day throughout my months of stepping into this line.

In the morning, my mum accompanied me to Singapore Waiting Hospital. The appointment was 8.30am but we were earlier. The receptionist told us the doctor would be around only at around 9am. They could have set my appointment at 8.45am instead.

The doctor analysed the ugly thing on my waist was wart at the very first sight. It was due to virus infection and anyone could have gotten it at any part of the body. It could be spread but not so easily and the worst thing was to have this virus got into the inner body.

I was given three choices, of which were to apply medicine for months, Cryotherapy or Electrosurgery. Cryotherapy was applying of liquid nitrogen and Electrosurgery would be a painful one with injection but was the most effective of all.

I took the second option and waited outside the room for another doctor. Then, I had this weird experience with the spray landing on my waist, causing pains and numbness. I could take the pain at the infected spot but not the holding of my numbed thumb, which was a very irritating feeling. The bill was $41, which ached my heart and I probably had to go back for another one or two similar treatment.

Back at home, I received calls from Kelly and started to get cracking. She had a bad news for me, which was the application for the Toa Payoh flat was rejected. We were too excited in getting it and did not realise Chinese was not eligible in that month.

I tried hard to alias with other agents to deal with the JTC flats. One frustrating thing was nobody could find the block 610 Ang Mo Kio keys as Louis had left for overseas. The struggle to get hold of the keys was tough.

At around 2pm, I rushed to office to get and return some keys before rushing down to Ang Mo Kio. The speed walk towards Redhill MRT was tiring and boring. Royston called me just before I reached the destination, which slowed me down a lot, causing me to miss a train and a seven-minute delay. I got to see many cute uniform girls throughout the journey.

I reached block 219 at 2pm sharp with my swift pace and Stanley was already there with his buyers. I was shocked when he claimed that his wife was working in my company and somehow I realised I might be screwed up; he could use our time to show him the flats and close under his wife’s name.

Ah Beng and Ah Lian at Ang Mo Kio. The girl in white clothes looked sweet but she smoked.

Later on, Kelly had a long struggle over the phone to trace whoever took some keys. The managers of those teams certainly sucked terribly for unable to account for the keys. I was watching some students downstairs the block, creating nuisance and one of the sweet girls was actually smoking. Some of them were in Ang Mo Kio Secondary’s uniforms.

Kelly left after 5pm and I went up to the Ang Mo Kio Community Centre alone to wait for Mingfa. Then, I bought a packet of titbit and a bottle of ice lemon tea from the provision shop. Just when I managed to find a seat outside the MacDonald’s, watching some girls celebrating birthday, Mingfa called to ask me to go down to Block 110 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh myself. It was another terribly tiring walk towards MRT station.

The trip was a fruitful one and I managed to get to see two babes, of which, one looked like Ruoci (definitely not as “dao”) and another resembled a prettier and healthier looking Jielin. I took a seat for I was already exhausted and each of them stood by each side of the door such that I was so lost whether to look at my right or left side.

Just as I reached Bishan, Mingfa called me as Mingen was ready to pick me up but it was of course too late. We met up at MacDonald’s and Mingfa insisted me to take a burger. We went up to the flat later and Audrey’s clients were late.

Just as they arrived and I was trying to do my best to promote the flat, Kelly called me. Then, Royston arrived to collect the keys and Kelly called me again, such that everyone was busy with our own stuffs. This group of clients left soon and I was so disappointed for Royston was bringing his clients for a second viewing the next day.

We went down to block 171 immediately but Kelly’s information was so unclear. I called Lynn, and she claimed that she did not have any viewing with us and I was loss. I knew she was all messed up. We waited downstairs the flat and I was waiting for information whether who to contact.

We saw Francis Foo and Irene and later, Kelly finally gave me the correct agent’s contact number but she claimed that Kelly had fixed appointment with her only on the next day. That was when I showed my shagged face to everyone. Then I realised I was facing Peixian’s parents. Later on, another agent by the name of Adeline came and she needed the keys as well and thus we arranged to meet up the next day.

Mingen was driving us to Marina South but he did not know the way. I wanted to help out when we were at Kallang but I was not very appreciated since I was not firm enough. However, suddenly they changed idea and went to Suntec City instead by taking ECP.

Fountain of Wealth

Fountain of Wealth

We rotted there for a while and went to the Fountain of Wealth where a couple were performing live kissing and petting. Mingen and I decided to go down to try dedicating message to Mingfa and Meijun but they decided to follow us. We told Mingfa of the plan and he lured Meijun to other places, however, the plan failed as the insensitive and lagging touch-screen system slowed us down and the dedication system closed for the night.

I was quite lost with my way but managed to see the bus-stop at Nicoll Highway and bid them goodbye. My neighbour boarded the bus and we started chatting then.
