Nanyang Kitchen at People’s Park Complex Food Centre

A visit to Chinatown last evening killed my huge appetite. My family and I went to People’s Park Complex Food Centre for our dinner and my younger brother happened to have a craving for herbal soup. Since I was exhausted from the night cycling half a day ago, I wanted to take some meat. We ordered a bowl of soup and sweet and sour pork rice from the stall “Nanyang Kitchen”.

It was run by China people. The lady was very rude. She forgot about my order after collecting money and made me stand there for very long. My brother had taken our herbal soup away earlier on and left me waiting there alone. Many people who had ordered other food (meat and fish) were served before me.

She thought I was a new customer and tried to take my order again. I told her I was waiting for my sweet and sour pork rice and she started asking her chef to include my dish. Next she told me, "Young man, there are many people waiting for their food, be patient okay? The meat requires a long time to cook."

Obviously she was in the wrong and I was in fact very polite to her all along. I was very turned off that she tried to hide the fact. Can't this China lady admit her mistake? I'm a Chinese born in Singapore and it's obvious I could hear her late instruction for her chef.

I don't think she's running an honest business. She overcharged a customer who was sharp enough to expose her. The food tasted quite bad seriously. She was a great foreign talent who was actually quite bad in her mathematics who also reminded me good customer service.

Visit to Mike’s House

[Sunday, 6 February, 2011]

I continued with my SEO work until 4.30am.

I woke up after 11am and started playing with Lucky. After that, I set off to Hougang to meet up with Mike. By 2.10pm, I reached there and walked around for a while while waiting for him. We had lunch at Aston at a coffee shop. The grilled fish was quite normal. After taking lunch, we went shopping at Hougang Mall where he bought a fan.

We went to his house and I got the biggest ang bao money of the year from his dad. I got to see his newly painted room but it reminded me of the purple dragon fruit.

After that, we went to NEX at Serangoon to shop around. I was quite pleased to see a dog café at the top storey. There was a wet children playground as well. The King and King Wong shop impressed us with the gorgeous European furniture but they were rather costly. We got four wall paintings there. While we were inside the V-Hive shop, Mike’s dream girl came with her friends. Soon, I left the party.

I went to Chinatown to meet up with my family. We had dinner at the chicken rice shop opposite CK. After that, we went over to shop a while before going home.

Sandwiched in China’s Town

[Saturday, 22 January, 2011]

I kept myself busy with SEO for the tuition agency website and also made some planning for the pages. After blogging, I continued with SEO till 6am.

I woke up at 2pm and started working for the entire day. I improved on the FAQ page and continued with SEO.

In the evening, my family and I went to Chinatown’s Swanston to top up household products. I was quite taken aback on the bus because I had told myself not to step into Chinatown before the Chinese New Year because of the crowd. The massive jam along the way irritated me. After purchasing the item, spending near to $50, we went to the KFC for our dinner.

Then, we made the wrong decision to cross over to the pasar malam. Eventually, we could only move less than half a step every second. I realised I was getting very impatient due to the fact that there were too many things pending for me to handle and squeezing with the crowd was definitely waste of time when we could not really look at the stalls. I got a little giddiness from the walk. We left through the street before the Indian temple.

We went to the NTUC for a while before heading home.

Sunday Dinner at Chinatown with Family

[Sunday, 16 January, 2011]

I spent hours to blog before going to bed at around 5.30am. I woke up at 3pm to work on the tuition agency website and I managed to improve on the tuition assignments feed.

I had dinner with my family at China's town and I was quite turned off to see the huge crowd due to the pasar malam for Chinese New Year. We ordered a set meal from a seafood stall that offered sting ray, prawn, vegetable and toad’s meat at around $37. I did not really like the food, besides, they were too spicy. My elder brother got some satays and almost got himself into some problems.

I took a little walk around the NTUC with my mum and younger brother. I was busy checking out the coke’s price because I thought Mike could save near 50% money by purchasing large bottle coke instead of can.

Two New Gym Works Pending

[Sunday, 19 December, 2010]

I took blogged as the first task of the day and went to sleep at 6am.

I woke up after 3pm and started “packing” my desktop to tidy it up. I had a chat with Tze Khit and Mike before my family and I went to meet my elder brother and his girlfriend at Chinatown’s CK departmental store. Initially, they wanted to have dinner at the porridge stall opposite but I opposed since I had taken it with Mike just a few days ago and it was nothing good. In the end, we went to Maxwell food centre instead. I took chicken rice for dinner.

Tze Khit continued the conversation with me by helping me to vent through my website. He managed to find typographical errors. Suddenly, Bobby called me and asked me to go down to the gym to help him with stuffs again for the next day. Tze Khit started telling me about the requirements to update the Gold’s Gym website. I was very stressed because I was badly exhausted by the recently office renovation and that it had already halted the progress of my own website. If I could not push the site faster, my saving would be dried up very soon and I would be in a sorry state for helping others instead of myself. However, Tze Khit promised me to fund my AdWords campaign, which I could not even find time to explore.

I continued working with my tuition agency website and did SEO for it.

Lucky to Hot Dog for Nails Trimming

[Saturday, 6 November, 2010]

I spent quite some time blogging before going to bed at 6am.

Eventually, I woke up at 2pm and had my lunch. After that, I followed my brothers and my elder brother’s girlfriend to bring Lucky to trim his nails at “Hot Dog”, which was near River Valley. We took cab over.

Lucky was excited to be at the pet shop. After trimming his nails, he pooed on the floor right behind an ah moh who was footing her bill at the counter. My elder brother bought a spraying conditioner for him. Then, we had a long walk towards Clarke Quay. After passing by Riverside Point, we bought two ice-creams and boarded a cab at South Bridge Road. Upon alighting at Tanjong Pagar, I bought a cup of Slurpee to share.

We had dinner at Chinatown an hour later after my mum returned from work. We had eleven small bowls of chicken rice and the thrill was the trying out of cheap fruit juices at a dollar each. My stomach was bloated and thus I took only two bowls of rice and little meat.

After reaching home, we were surprised that Lucky did not make a mess out of the kitchen. I started working on my website by submitting it to directories and also created banners to place inside.

The Lucky Two Smiles because of Lucky

[Friday, 22 October, 2010]

My mum and I went down to the third storey to take our shower. We brought along Lucky as usual and we took turns to look after him. As usual, I spent my morning working on the tuition website. Eventually, I spent hours typing emails to get helps for the website. I continued with blogging and gave up after 7am. Lucky came into the room and my younger brother woke up just in time to halt me from dozing off. I fell asleep after 9am.

I saw light at around 2pm. One of the workers knocked the door to get permission to come in because he needed to change the electricity wires for the main switch and it was then I realised how the cabling worked.

A china man was working on the new main door, which was ahead of schedule. However, my mum and elder brother tried on it and realised there were difficulties closing the door without using strength. They went downstairs and my mum went to the office to complain about the door. I was totally turned off when I saw the guy, Bob Lim, one of the site supervisors.

As expected, he told me craps and lied that it was how the door should work and then he started telling me stories about the other units’ doors that were done improperly. I tried my neighbour’s door and it was smooth. Later on, another supervisor, Ricky Teo, came by and my mum told him about it. Immediately, he called the China man back and insisted that something must be done to the poor finishing. We confirmed that we were right about the problem and I saw through the hypocrite who tried to push problems away to save himself from trouble.

We went to Chinatown for dinner with Lucky. My younger brother brought his slippers along to fix it and we waited very long for him between Chinatown Complex and the flat at Sago Lane. After that, he told us that it was due to a China guy trying so hard to bargain price for a pair shoes with the shop owner that my younger brother had to wait for them to finish before he could talk to the owner.

We went to Food Street but half of the stalls were empty. We decided to go to the chicken rice shop further down towards the main street. After having our dinner, we walked towards Outram MRT along the main road and went to the Japan Home shop to see what we could get for the bathroom so that we could get the workers to fix up at the end of the renovation.

My elder brother carried Lucky and waited at the squeezy entrance of the shop and I took over him after a while since he had better ideas what to get. It was one of my luckiest days I had after months that while I was trying to make way for the passers-by to avoid Lucky from trying to sniff anyone, a very stylish and charming girl passed by with her mum, and we exchanged smiles. At the end of the shop’s entrance, they made a U-turn and we exchanged smiles the second time. I saw the luxuries of carrying a cute dog on the street.

My brothers and I went for shower at the third storey as early as 10pm without my mum since we knew she would return after midnight.

Swim at Sengkang and Foot Massage at People’s Park Centre

[Saturday, 9 October, 2010]

Other than working on my new website, I started blogging for my personal and other blogs to keep them updated. I slept at 5am. It was an unusual day for I slept on top of the double decker bed, swapping places with my younger brother. However, as I climbed up, Lucky woke up and made a din for he wanted to join me.

I woke up at 8am. When I was checking my email, I realised my Facebook account was live again. I was the first to arrive at Sengkang. Peh had just woke up while Gilbert was a few stations away. I even had the time to walk around and hesitate to have my KFC twister because I was worried that I might throw out inside the pool later. I went to the toilet before going to the control station to meet up with Gilbert. We went to Breadtalk and we set off to Farmway after I had my hotdog bun.

While we were purchasing the tickets to the swimming pools, Peh arrived just in time. I felt uneasy with the old swimming trunk for the rubber was loose already. We used the digital lockers before going down to the main pool. We stopped after each lap and completed only ten laps. Then we went to play the slides. It was very enjoyable and I was quite reluctant to leave but Peh was having something on.

We went to Compass Point for lunch. Dining at Yoshinoya was one of the worst terrors I had but I decided to go with the flow without telling them I did not like the restaurant. Peh had to leave right after the meal and I followed Gilbert to Ion to get his new Topshop member card. After walking around for a while, we went home.

I dozed off in the afternoon soon after reaching home. In the evening, my younger brother decided to bring my mum for massage as she was complaining about her shoulders after the long eyes check-up. We went to People’s Park Centre and my younger brother and I had foot massage while waiting for my mum. It was a good experience for the send time I had ever had foot massage. The massager held back whenever he saw that I was in extreme pain. The only flaw was that the two massagers kept talking and often paused.

We had dinner at the hawker centre nearby. Since I had five pieces of “shui guo” before leaving house, we shared two plates of noodle. The shops that we wanted to visit were all closed. During the journey home, my elder brother called and we met up at Duxton Plain Park with Lucky. My younger brother went home to get the waveboard and scooter, while the rest of us crossed over to the 7-11 store below Icon to get slurpee.

Good Feast at Chinatown Complex

[Sunday, 3 October, 2010]

I had another tough night working on my new website. For the second time, I slept with Lucky at the living room’s floor on straw mat at 6am. My younger brother returned at 9am from his German friends’ hotel. Then I went into the bedroom to sleep and Lucky joined me.

I had lunch with my brothers and elder brother’s girlfriend at Maxwell Food Centre and we brought Lucky along. I was not sure what to eat since taking the two dollar value noodle too often was not a good choice. In the end, I went to the curry chicken rice stall to get some expensive mixed vegetable rice for my younger brother and I.

After lunch, we took Lucky to the third storey to play at the playground. My elder brother bathed Lucky after we went back and I started working on my website again.

At night, the entire family had dinner at Chinatown Complex. We ordered satays, sting ray, vegetable, fish head and xiao long bao. We also had cheap guava juice, lychee drinks and dessert. We shopped a while at CK departmental stall before we hurried home to feed Lucky. He had his dinner at 9pm for the first time. We were not very worried since he often dragged his dinner.

Dining and Shopping Together as Whole Family

[Tuesday, 10 August, 2010]

I slept at 6am and my mum woke me up at around 10.30am before she left for the hospital. I was brushing my teeth and she changed her mind that she left together with my elder brother without even telling me. I went back to sleep until around 1pm.

The four of us had lunch at the Tanjong Pagar food centre. After that, I accompanied my younger brother to the MRT station to buy his student concession pass.

I spent the afternoon doing up an article for SmokeForWhat but it was much easier since someone else had typed the article out and I was merely formatting it and researching the keywords.

At night, the four of us went the Chinatown Complex to have dinner at the level two food centre. This time, we had chicken rice but my younger brother did not take much since he had the same food not long ago in school.

After the dinner, we shopped at Swanston and followed by the CK departmental store where I saw a very cute and sweet girl. Next, we moved to the Tanjong Pagar NTUC.

It had been long since we went out on our own.

Chicken Rice at Chinatown Complex

[Saturday, 15 May, 2010]

It was a different start of the day for I did not feel like sleep early despite I knew I could not really doze off easily. I kept working till a couple of hours before sunrise.

In the evening, my mum and I walked to Chinatown to meet my elder brother and his girlfriend for dinner. We were aiming for the chicken rice near the escalator and having missed it a couple of times previously, we managed to get half a chicken after a long queue. While waiting, we saw a dish collector chatting away with customer despite the tables were in a mess. When my mum went over to approach her to help to clear up our table, she claimed that she was not in charge of our area. A foreign looking guy with a few piercing around his face showed a total attitude but he did not seem to look at me when I was trying to show him appreciation by smiling.

We did not have a long night out. After dinner, we went to the NTUC for a short while before reaching home at 8.30pm.

It was another boring day despite it was a weekend; I felt like a forgotten soul. The aching of my upper body caused irritation to me.

Mothers’ Day Dinner

[Sunday, 9 May, 2010]

I spent the early morning finishing up for the sCreative website. Then, I moved on to improve other websites. The morning was boring.

Work occupied me throughout the afternoon. I was able to push the latest design to live, which left me a more peaceful mind, except that lots of contents were required to be added.

Since both of my brothers were not in Singapore, I was quite pressured over where to bring my mum out for dinner. Tengy gave me good suggestions and I was very impressed with her knowledge of my neighbourhood, forgetting that she used to work around my place and Chinatown.

In the end, I brought my mum to Chinatown Point for Swenson since both of us could not order many dishes if we were going to have Chinese meal. The ambience was not nice because the place was too small. The banging onto the chair by the staffs and the loud market noise from the customers were annoying. We ordered a plate of fish and chips and breaded chicken to share. The waitress recommended us a $5 add-on for a drinks, soup and ice-cream to fill our stomachs completely.

We walked towards People’s Park Centre at the Swanston store to get cheap stuffs before going home. I wanted to help my mum to top up her Ez-link card since she was complaining that she had not done it for very long already, and suddenly she asked me to transfer some money into her bank account, and my hesitation to get a DSLR camera died.

Great Family Day at Queensway and Chinatown

[Saturday, 1 May, 2010]

I tried to sort out the photos taken during the camp but got too tired and I gave up after 2am upon finishing my blogging.

It was a long sleep and I woke up at 1pm. before I could do much work, my elder brother suggested to go to Anchor Point with his girlfriend. We went to the Hong Kong Café while waiting for my mum to come. Then, we changed our minds and decided to dine at IKEA instead. It was a good meal.

My brother went to the pet shop nearby to get the birds’ food while the three of us walked around to wait for him. I saw my favourite chairs but did not get any of them for I was not sure if the price was worth it a not. We went back to Anchor Point where we got cheap yoga before moving to Chinatown.

We went to see the chair my brother recommended but the backrest was simply strings which I did not like even though it had the hollowness in between for air ventilation. Even though it had wheels, which the ones I saw in IKEA did not have, I thought I would need a good back support as well.

We went shopping for a while at the CK departmental store before we went to Chinatown Complex to get some fruit juice and also satays despite I was feeling bad on my throat. It was quite a good family even though I had missed out a lot of work.

Too Early for Farewell Dinner

On Friday morning, I was not sure what time to kick off my day since I was informed of an 8am relief duty days ago, however, the summary of the daily status did not include it. Nobody replied my email. For the benefit of doubt, I dragged my feet to work earlier than usual and it proved that my effort was worthwhile. My dear friend, Xiuzhen, went to school earlier and she killed my boredom by joining me in the class.

I took half day off in the afternoon and rested at home until the evening, leaving for the dinner with the colleagues. It was my virgin visit to 313 Somerset and I was stuck at the basement. The escalators from basement 2 to 3 were not in operation yet and I tried going down the stairs. After travelling down a flock of stairs, the light went off. I got the greatest shock of the year. The worst of all was the embarrassment that I had to conceal. Moving up the stairs slowly with the limited beams of light from the door kindly built with a small piece of glass, I was hoping nobody would be outside. Nevertheless, it was a wrong decision to proceed down, wasting my steps. I met two aunties on my way into the lift and they saved my day by exclaiming there was “Marche” restaurant and I looked at the label besides the button and realised it was on level 1.

Having dinner with the best bosses in the world was enjoyable; however, it was weird to have farewell dinner when I was not confirmed with my departure yet. The food was not to my liking although the ambience was nice. I heard jokes and stories, and I started envying everyone, for I had spent most of my time in front of the computers for more than ten years of my life. There was nothing much I could share, probably except for some sad love stories.

They wanted to go pubbing at Number 5 but it was too crowded. We proceeded to KPO where the filthy rich people went to and there was not even enough space for us to stand. Next, Jenne recommended us to Bar Stop where we shared the table together with her friends. It was a nice place and it would be my greatest fantasy to live in a place beautifully designed place in future. We were left with Weitat, Henry, Jenne, Joei and me.

We made our ways off at around midnight and I missed my last bus 167, having to walk home from Chinatown by taking bus 124.

Swim, Shop and Eat with Family

On Sunday, I woke up early despite sleeping late. My younger brother asked me to go for a swim together but I was too lazy to give a definite answer. It started pouring and I dozed off after catching my favourite show on channel 8. We finally set off together after 2pm for Mount Faber SAFRA.

It was super costly at $3.20 for my entry ticket. My right wrist and middle finger were giving me problems. There was lots of phlegm once my head went into the water and it was very uncomfortable. After swimming for six laps, it started pouring and we got up and camped under the big umbrella to chit-chat. I was frozen to continue the swim after the lifeguard gave the signal for clearance. I stayed at the Jacuzzi and my fingers were numbed. I enjoyed the heated water inside the shower and they even provided us with the body lotion.

My brother had a buyer for his phone and thus we called off our plan to go to Vivocity’s Daiso, and instead, made our way home directly.

My whole family went to Chinatown in the evening. We shopped at the Swanston shop and it burnt my pocket a hole. Next, we continued to shop towards Chinatown Complex and dined over there. Each dish cost $8 and we had three of them, which I felt was quite a reasonable price.

It was the rarest long weekend ever for I spent three continuous days with my younger brother.

The biggest problem was that I was supposed to get kicking with my websites to start my career.

Sunday Lunch at Hong Xin

Sunday afternoon was quite different from usual. My younger brother went for tutoring and the rest of us had lunch at the restaurant “Hong Xin” near People’s Park. It was almost three PM when they were taking the last order and thus we did not order excess food. The dim sum was better than Dragon Gate. There were actually quite a number of sweet girls around and the conclusion was that pretty babes loved having dim sum.

I was having some hesitation at first since Irwin was flying off in the afternoon and I actually wanted to send him off since it would take some time for him to return; moreover, I did not join him in the golf and dinner outing the day before due to my family dinner with relatives. My mind was also occupied with assignments.

It was quite a boring afternoon for me.

Dinner and Shopped with Family

I started my lazy Sunday late. The most eventful thing was the dinner with my family. My elder brother wanted to taste the curry fish head at Chinatown again but he had to accommodate me since I did not like taking fish. My mum chose the usual sting ray stall and we had two plates of sting rays and a plate of prawn at $8 each, and a plate of vegetable at $4.

After that, we went to the nearest CK departmental stall to shop. The basement had been renovated and there were less tidbits since the new shelves were shorter. However, the entire place looked much brighter. We got three cute baskets after choosing for quite some time since the quality was so bad that many of them were already damaged or scratched. I felt quite pressurized at the perfume section when my mum mentioned that the perfume I gave her a few years ago was very nice because it cost over a hundred dollar.

It was a great night for family’s togetherness.

After reaching home, I started packing the wardrobe. I cleared some unwanted clothes and there were still many which I could not bear to part with. In fact, I had so many new shirts inside, which I felt unnecessary to use them. I found a short sleeve shirt which my younger brother bought for me at Thailand, which he claimed was expensive. Since it was kind of rainbow coloured and thus not very formal, I was not sure if I should wear it to work.

Pot Luck, Volleyball, Settlers' Café, Chinatown Complex

On the first day of the holiday, I woke up feeling weak and the entire body was strengthless.

Volleyball was stated to be at two PM but even the most important person, Mingfa, was late. I had some conversation with an uncle whom arrived shortly after me and he told me about the prospect of IT career, which was quite enlightening.

One of my favourite uncles arrived soon and he took out the "orh tar" for us to chew and soon, Mingfa arrived with my gang. We set up the court immediately before grabbing more bites on the semi "buffet". More food came in later and the pot luck party was overwhelming.

Unfortunate that the little food I took had made my stomach so bloated that I could not take more and that it affected my performance during the games. I played badly.

During the evening, we went to Holland Village to try out gaming at the Settlers’ Café. Parking was hell difficult for the heavy flow of cars at this popular place. Free flow of drinks was near ten bucks per person. The staff who first attended us was cute and I supposed that was the greatest gain of the trip.

There were Mingfa, Grace, Weitat, Jingkun, Kok Chiang and Mingli, and Ah Teck and Wilson joined us at the end but they did not join in the fun. It was a pretty good experience and it was one of the rare things my gang would ever do. I was caught laughing the most even though I was the only who wanted to opt out at first. My hesitation was caused by my stubborn and poor time management.

At around nine PM, we went to Chinatown Complex for dinner. I was guilty for the rest of them had to travel the long distance probably because I was staying furthest away from them.

I toured around three quarters of the place but most of the stalls were closed and that I had no choice but to order a bowl of noodle. It was not an easy night for me because of my weird stomach condition. After reaching home, everything was fine.

Aunt's First Warding at the Hospital

Most people were rushing to finish marking their papers and words were exchanged; somehow the spirit was good. On the other side, it seemed to be a quieter day for Weitat and me in the absence of Jingkun.

We went to Clementi's bookshop to search for Weitat's book cover while I started drooling over the programming books on the shelves. However, before I could find any PHP book, Weitat was done. We went to the bookshop above the fast food restaurants where Mingfa came over to meet us. The board games and stationeries, including bags sparked my excitement.

Next, we proceeded to send Mingfa to CMPB for his stubbornness to book IPPT test before proceeding to Bukit Merah to buy some finger food. Mingfa called us soon and informed us that he had remembered the wrong date. It got complicated when Jingkun was supposed to meet us for lunch but the sudden change of time might pose problems and Mingen had called Mingfa suddenly and wanted to join us. Alas, timing was good enough that we managed to meet up at the ABC market without much delay. Mingfa, Weitat and I were too lazy to choose what to eat and thus we got ourselves the chicken rice again.

After getting back to work, I tried to concentrate but it was not long before my mum made a call to me. At such an odd hour – three PM – she asked if I might be happened to knock off from work already. Then she told me that my aunt was at the hospital. She further scared me that the doctor had claimed that there seemed to be some stones inside my aunt's stomach and her life might be in danger. She told me that she was going to my aunt's home to take care of my sick uncle and my brother was waiting at the A&E.

I did not know how serious the situation was but it would not look nice if I were to leave work early when Jingkun was already not around, and the few slackers who were deemed as part of our gang might not be around as well. My determination to finish off my last set of torment held me back. Soon, I started to realise struggling on was a complete waste of time and could even cause errors in my lack of concentration. Finally, I could not hold it anymore and went to inform my boss that I had to leave immediately. He did not question me and instantly gave a hand signal to acknowledge.

On the way, cold sweat started dripping off my tensed body, as my worries started sweeping my brain all over. I began to worry about the medical bill but was pleased that I had not registered for university yet. The lack of visit to my aunt was somehow prickling me.

I took the wrong path even though SGH was supposed to be my dominance for the frequent visit. After seeing my aunt who was already at the observation ward, I got to slowly piece up the story.

She started vomiting on Sunday night and visited the polyclinic on the next day. The doctors advised her to visit the hospital because they could find some lumps on her stomach. My mum’s assume-we-know-everything storytelling had posed so much fear in my mind for the past hour; I could have clarified with my elder brother earlier given the experience of communicating with my mum.

I stayed inside the ward to keep my aunt accompanied. She questioned me about going to university and apologised for not able to offer any financial help to me – she could hardly even fare for herself given no child at the age of sixty over, being jobless, and that my uncle was too great a burden to her. My younger brother arrived some time later. My aunt's blood test results were out after five PM and everything was fine and the doctor said it could be just some gastric problems that caused her to vomit.

At the payment counter, my aunt insisted to foot her bill but my brother and I lied that they could only accept NETS payment. Then, we told her it was nineteen dollars instead of ninety dollars but the bloody brainless cashier acted like a moron and tried to correct us to make it so obvious that we were lying even though my aunt was not English educated.

My elder brother and his girlfriend made their way to Chinatown while my younger brother and I took my aunt home by cab. From SGH, it actually cost us more than seven dollars just to reach Kim Tian Road and I confirmed that cab companies were daylight robbers.

We left my aunt and uncle soon and made our way to Chinatown together with my mum. We bought some stuffs at the CK departmental store before going for dinner. The sting ray stall was closed for the day and we struggled some time before decided to eat chicken rice – my second time for the day.

Before we could finish enjoying our meal, a weird auntie approached us to buy tissue papers. It was not the usual case of such irritating acts in hawker centres and this time the seller seemed to be an insane case. She was not limping or blind, and none of her body seemed to be pitiful, but she behaved so creepy that most of the diners were staring at her wherever she went.

My mum took out tissue papers just before she came over. She simply put her tissue papers on the table and reached out her hands for money. She refused to leave and suddenly she kneeled down while she seemed to be packing her big bag. We refused to buy her threat and after a minute or so, she got up and decided to give up after some time. Wherever she went to, the people seemed to be so disgusted and even foreigners turned her away. Another disgusting act of her was when she started plucking her nose.

Government should do something to stop selling of tissue papers in food centres to stop the irritation; but however, if necessary, licenses should be given to the disabled.

Dinner at Chinatown Complex

Last Thursday, my gang decided to go for dinner together. Jingkun initiated it but since he left earlier than Weitat and I, we had some problems communicating with him.

In the end, we decided to go to IMM. We met up with Mingli first and walked around to search for her printer. Mingfa and Jingkun later merged into the group and we decided to go to Chinatown to have sting ray. Jingkun was the driver and we parked the car at Maxwell Food Centre before crossing the road over to Chinatown Complex.

The colourful fruit juices

Tableful of food

Mingfa and Jingkun

Weitat and Mingli

We ordered two plates of sting rays and an individual plate for octopus and vegetable each. Mingfa ordered a plate of Hokkien noodle whereas Weitat bought three bowls of soup, which we felt it was waste of money.

I finally fulfilled one of my wishes to give them a treat on the food which my entire family had been enjoying since my dad was around. They were good and cheap food.
